Chile Mission History



The Andes Mission, which included Chile, was created November 1, 1959. The Chilean Mission was created October 8, 1961, when it was split off from the Andes Mission. This mission was renamed to the Chile mission June 10, 1970, and the Chile Santiago Mission on June 10, 1974. The Concepción mission was created July 1, 1975, when it was split off from the Chile Santiago mission.

The Santiago North Mission was created when the Santiago Mission was divided into the the Santiago North and Santiago South Missions in January 1, 1977. The Viña del Mar Mission was split off from the Santiago North mission July 1, 1979. After the 1979 division, the Santiago North mission covered northern cities from Arica to Chañaral and Copiapó, and Santiago comunas Quinta Normal, Conchalí, Peñalolén, Las Condes, Nuñoa, Renca, Providencia, Lo Prado, Pudahuel, and La Reina.

The Santiago North Mission was divided in 1989 into the Santiago North and Antofagasta Missions. The Antofagasta mission includes the following cities: Antofagasta, Iquique, Arica, Copiapó, Chañaral, María Elena, Portrerillos, El Salvador, Vallenar, Chuquicamata, Calama, Pedro de Valdivia, Mejillones, and Tocopilla.

The Santiago North Mission was divided again on July 1, 1995 into the Santiago North and Santiago West Missions.
